A lockdown at a local high school this yesterday in Elliot Lake appears to be a false alarm. In a news release, the East Algoma OPP said there appears to have been “a technical issue with the panic alarm initiation” at the school on Mississauga Avenue.

The 129-year-old Sheguiandah United Church on Townline Road will soon be demolished. The country church was decommissioned by the United Church of Canada with a special service in September of last year after the building fell into a state of disrepair.

Laurentian University says tuition increase are on the way for the fall. Included in that, most international students by five per cent in the next academic year. Laurentian’s board of governors approved the tuition fee hike for all of its programs except its MBA program and its master of social work.

The Timmins Police Service is seeking the help of the public to locate a missing teen. Nevaeh Sullivan, 13, was last seen wearing PJ pants, a grey hoodie, multi-colored Crocs shoes and is carrying a Northern College backpack.
