Five new forest fires broke out this weekend in the northeast region. Timmins 5 is 15 km east of Highway 144 and just south of Mamie Lake. Sudbury 4 also started in and is located 1.5 km east of Highway 69 and half a km north of Round Lake. Both are 1.5-hectares in size, and it is not yet under control, MNRF says.

This week in North Bay is Dionne Quint’s week. The week will hold an 89th birthday for the sisters. The museum will be open from 10 – 4 and “Five-the-Dionnes – the Musical” will take place this weekend at the Capital Centre.

The high-water level at Nellie Lake has resulted in a state of emergency declared by the town of Iroquois Falls. Right off the top, power boaters are asked to stay off the lake.

The city of Sault Ste Marie is wanting to scrap all parking meters and pay-and-displays. The proposal is to gradually move to the Passport parking app.

The annual review of cadets from the Timmins Zone took place in the McIntyre Curling Club this weekend. More than 120 cadets from Hearst, Kapuskasing, New Liskeard, Cochrane, Kirkland Lake, Iroquois Falls, Englehart, and Timmins all participated.
