A number of roads CAA’s Worst Roads list are from Northern Ontario once again. Taking top spot was Algonquin Boulevard East in Timmins, with Fielding Road in Greater Sudbury taking second. Third went to Premier Road in North Bay.

An outdoor theatre is set to open in downtown Sudbury this summer. YES Theatre received $750,000 from the province to build at a formerly empty lot across from the YMCA on Durham Street.

In North Bay, the Backpacks of Love campaign has wrapped up its fourth campaign, packing 66 backpacks filled with important clothing and toilet trees for those in need.

Timmins is in the middle of a heat event according to Environment Canada. Maximum daytime temperatures are expected to be 29 to 32 degrees Celsius with overnight temperatures in the high teens.

The city of Sault Ste Marie has netted a $5 million surplus from 2022. The city’s surplus will be allotted to tax stabilization reserves, capital reserves, and long-term debt.

A fire ban is in place for Elliot Lake and Blind River as the danger is said to be extreme.

The city of Greater Sudbury is imposing a fire ban as of midnight tonight. High temperatures and dry conditions have contributed to extreme fire conditions across Northern Ontario.

OPP and City Police are reminding drivers the deadline to get studded tires off vehicles is today. Police say drivers can face a fine of $85 if they continue to use studded tires after May 31.

Elliot Lake’s Municipal Hazardous and Special Waste Collection Day is today. The collection site is located at 3 Timber Road in the North Industrial Area and will run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Sault Police are reminding residents to lock their phones when not using them. This is after receiving what they call a “significant increase” in unintentional 911 calls — at least 15 over the past few days.

Cleanup continues following an explotion and fire at the North end of North Bay were woken up by the sounds of an explosion around 3 a.m. as a transport truck went up in flames on Algonquin Avenue between the Shirreff and McKeown Avenue.

No word yet as to the cause of the transport fire however OPP confirmed no one was injured in the fire including the transport driver.

Forest fire smoke is continuing to affecting air quality in Kapuskasing, Hearst. It’s all thanks to a fire that’s been impacting travel on Highway 631. It has grown to 4,800 hectares.

The Township of Macdonald, Meredith and Aberdeen Additional has issued a fire ban, effective today, until further notice. The impacted area includes Echo Bay and Sylvan Valley.
