Greater Sudbury City council has unanimously backed a $200M arena/events centre. All 13 members of Greater Sudbury city were in attendance. City officials later voted to approve new debt of up to $135 million to help pay for it, which, when secured, will bring the city’s total debt load to $604 million.

The North Bay Snowmobile club is getting a jump on trail prep on next season, working on trails, hoping for a better season than this year.

A special council meeting of Timmins has one item on the agenda — the Living Space relocation review. Timmins council is meeting at 4 p.m. today.

Sault Ste Marie says they will not take over YMCA but will help absorb loss of programs. That includes increasing the number of swimming lessons offered, and ensuring 140 daycare spots are maintained or reallocated into the system. All programming at the Y will cease by May 15, with staff layoffs to match.

In Elliot Lake, The city is asking drivers to please refrain from parking at the Boat Launch entrance along Highway 108, doing so not only creates a dangerous situation with drivers backing onto the Highway but also blocks emergency vehicle access should they be needed.

North Bay residents – want to chat with the Mayor? You’ll soon have the chance. Starting next month, Mayor Peter Chirico is welcoming residents to join him on Wednesday mornings for a walk along the waterfront to talk about city issues.
Timmins is getting $48K from the Province for a sandbagging machine and flood training.

A power outage affecting Elliot Lake late yesterday has been restored. The city says there was no electricity in the area along Highway 108 from Hillside to Esten South. Anyone without power this morning is asked to contact Hydro One.

(UPDATED: FOUUND) Greater Sudbury Police is looking for a missing woman. 25-year-old missing person Jadis is described as 5-2 tall, 120 pounds, with long, dark hair. She has several tattoos, including the year “1998” on the right side of her face, a flower near her left eye, a rose and “faith” on her left hand.

Callander pickleballers are requesting courts at the Bill Barber Rink. In short they say it’s a ‘great problem to have’  with ‘too many people that want to play pickleball, and not enough courts to play on’.

The town of Mattawa has started sidewalk cleaning and space is required from drivers and pedestrians.

The Hoyle Bridge across the Porcupine River in the Timmins area is now gone. Closed since November, 2021 due to safety concerns, the old bridge has now been demolished. That said footings for a new bridge are expected soon, with a new span up this fall.

Significant damage has been reported following a fire yesterday afternoon in Sault Ste Marie. It happened in the 1200 block of Peoples Road. It was in an attached garage. “After further investigation, the cause of the fire was determined to be hot tools in close proximity to combustible materials”.
