A three-year, $1.5 million federally funded research project is underway in Sudbury aimed at restoring damaged peatlands.

The province is activating the disaster recovery assistance for Ontarians program in parts of the Town of Kirkland Lake, Township of McGarry and Township of Chamberlain following the floods in April.

The Cochrane District Social Services Administration Board is closing its EarlyON Centre at the YMCA on July 1st. The Y intends to use the space for 24 more daycare slots.

Mississauga First Nation has broken ground on social services building. The new building is expected to open next fall.

Road work in downtown Sault Ste. Marie is moving east. After starting late last month on the north side of the March-to-Spring block, work is continuing there but also starting up this week on the same side of the Spring-to-Brock block.

PUC Services says the power is back on after multiple power outages in the Sault and surrounding area, including in Fort Creek, where nearly 2,000 customers were without electricity yesterday afternoon.

Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon have reached a tentative agreement with Local 61 in Elliot Lake. A ratification meeting is expected to take place before the end of June with the four-year agreement retroactive to Sept. 1, 2022 and running until the end of August 2026.

Greater Sudbury Hydro responded to a power outage in Minnow Lake this morning… affecting customers on Donald, Darby, Raymond and area. The cause has not been given.

The heat is on… and the Gathering Place in North Bay is going one step further to help folks beat the heat by providing a water station in addition to being a cooling centre.

Cochrane Social Services is opening an Early ON centre in the eastern end of Timmins, in the Spruce Hill Lodge Retirement Home. The new service will be for families with young children, from newborns to six years old.

A new program is helping reduce emergency department visits at Sault hospital. Known as Seamless MD, the remote care monitoring system, has cut down on post-surgery readmissions and visits to local emergency department.
