The City of Elliot Lake is getting its first crack on tickets for an upcoming NHL game – one of its prizes for winning Kraft Hockeyville 2024. That said, the game will be held in Greater Sudbury because the Centennial Arena remains closed for structural reasons.

Mid-July 2026 is now the date the North Bay’s new Community and Recreation Centre will be substantially completed. That was part of the update this week at city council. The now square-designed building will include two side-by-side regulation-size ice rinks with bench seating for 250, along with a walking track. The initial design verification budget in July came in at $65 million. Roughly $5 million over the upset limit set by council.

Air Canada will begin suspending flights this weekend as a strike deadline looms. Households in the North East Region will begin receiving community satisfaction surveys on the services provided by local OPP. The survey will cover community security, perceptions of crime and youth issues in the community, OPP presence in the community and how the OPP investigates crime and enforces the law.
