Doug Ford was in Greater Sudbury yesterday with a promise…pledging of as much as $34.9 million to go toward shoring up a water/wastewater treatment system in the Lively/Walden. The goal is a system that will meet future needs.

More is being done to increase driver awareness associated with the risk of driving impaired. The Traffic Injury Research Foundation along with others were in North Bay this week all to discuss what’s being called the Impaired Driving Coalition of Canada.

In Timmins, The Mac could be the next addition to Timmins’ heritage list. The iconic brick structure built by J.P. Bickell in the 1930s is now the latest property being suggested to city council for the honour.

In Sault Ste Marie…Wait times are consistently below five hours. The Sault Area Hospital says extra government funding for six months has allowed hospital 16 more hours of daily physician coverage.

Believe it or not… forest fire season is still on. One new fire did spring up this week… but that’s now out. Only one fire is active in the region. It is being observed.

The long-awaited grand opening of the new St. Joseph’s Continuing Care Centre rehabilitation expansion project on Lasalle Boulevard in Sudbury has now taken place. Ontario Health Minister Sylvia Jones was in attendance. The new facility has been a project in the works since the first approval from the health ministry in April of 2022.

The Gathering Place community kitchen in North Bay says they’re here for the long-haul, continuing to prepare meals for those in need five days a week. This is after being turned for funding in recent days from District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board.

Meanwhile, pending the passage of a motion at Tuesday night’s Timmins council meeting, you’ll have to pay a lot more for your temporary car shelter this winter. And it’s quite the jump…. The seasonal charge rises from $15 to $35. The yearly fee jumps from $25 to $50. The fees haven’t increased in eight years.

North of Sault Ste Marie… Prince council is backtracking on the Douglas Drive extension.  Council votes unanimously against pursuing move despite earlier agreeing to project. This is after the same engineering company sent a proposal to the City of Sault Ste. Marie to realign a steep hill on Shatruck Drive, which leads from Sunnyside Beach Road to Walls Road.

Ahead of Remembrance Day, Veteran banners have expanded onto hydro poles across Little Current. There are now 72 military banners in place on light standards, in business windows and now, hydro poles, thanks largely in part to her efforts in seeing the project expand.

Vale Base Metals says it will build a monument to its famed superstack. Votes were submitted online and in-person at a Sudbury Open House at Dynamic Earth on Sept. 25 where over 5,000 votes were cast.
