The Greater Sudbury Police Service will see a budget increase in 2025. 6.2 percent was the number unanimously approved. That brings the operating budget to just under $83,500,000… approx. $5,000 shy of the one they approved last year.

In North Bay, the winter overnight parking ban will take effect tomorrow. The overnight on-street parking bans will be in effect until April 15 and prohibit parking on any city street within 12 hours of posting snow removal signs and within 24 hours of a snowfall.

Speaking of Snow, several communities have a special Travel Alert. They include
Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Timmins and Cochrane. Freezing Rain and Snowfall amounts of 5 to 10 cm are expected this afternoon lasting into Friday.

A New school in the Algoma district is topping the board’s list of capital projects for 2025. The new Three Rivers JK-12 School in Blind River will cost $50.5 million and be completed by 2026.

Volunteer firefighters from around Manitoulin Island have received training on how to contain and extinguish fires, with the mobile live fire training unit. It happened this month, welcoming personnel from several communities including Gore Bay, Little Current, Central Manitoulin, Tehkummah and Billings.

Collège Boréal in Sudbury will serve as a new regional centre for employment services in northeastern Ontario. The goal is to streamline existing employment services to be more efficient and better fill the needs of job seekers, businesses, and local communities.

In North Bay, Shorewood Road residents are asking city council for help. This is after deterioration has left sink holes 12 to 18-inches deep… it’s all due to drainage and runoff issues. Shorewood has 22 permanent residents and five cottages and they’re asking that it be paved.

Those heading north out of Sault Ste Marie have a Weather Travel Advisory. It’s in effect for Wawa, White River and surrounding areas. Winter Weather Travel Advisory in effect for this afternoon into Friday morning.

Timmins residents putting up temporary car shelters will not be forking out more cash for a permit. A staff request to increase the fee for small accessory structures and temporary tent shelters was turned down by Timmins council this week.
