From the good news file, St. Charles College (SCC) and Holy Trinity Catholic Elementary School have wrapped up their annual joint canned food drive, bringing in over 129lk (129,263) non-perishable food items.

The North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC) will require everyone to mask up in all patient care designated areas starting today. All due to a jump in repertory viruses. That includes all in-patient units and the Emergency Department.

Meanwhile, the outbreak at the Long-Term Care Unit at NSHN has now been resolved. Algoma Public Health declared it over on November 26, 2024.

With nearly nine decades of history in its halls, a new plaque is celebrating Timmins Hall. This week, the city unveiled the new heritage marker declaring the Timmins city hall building at 220 Algonquin Blvd. a heritage site.

Sault Area Hospital’s financial situation is good news, and bad news. It faces a big deficit for its fiscal year. The good news is that it won’t be over $20 million as originally anticipated. That said…they have received some additional funding news that will contribute to an improved position.

It’s getting chilly out there and those un-homed in Greater Sudbury have another resource. They can access a new warming centre on Energy Court, off of Lorne Street until the end of April.

West Nipissing OPP closed Highway 17 in both directions for just over an hour yesterday, following a single motor vehicle collision at around 6pm. Fire and EMS responded. Thankfully there were no major injuries.

The Cochrane Foodbank is taking donations of nonperishable food item noting there’s been an increase in those on their door step this year.

The City of Sault Ste. Marie says with all the recent snow squall activity… they’ve asked residents not to leave garbage and recycling bins out the night before collection as it can cause plowing and snow removal issues.

To the good news file, St. Joseph’s General Hospital Elliot Lake has celebrated the opening of three newly created Smilezones in the hospital’s emergency department, medical surgical pediatric room, and continuing care unit family lounge. These spaces foster a positive atmosphere that can ease fears, boost morale, and enhance the healing experience.

There’re some new names at the head of the table at the RDSB. David Farrow has been acclaimed to a second term as chair of the Rainbow District School Board, while Alex McCauley was acclaimed as vice-chair.

The city of North Bay says the festivities in town continue this weekend. Almost a week after the Christmas Parade, the Old Fashioned Downtown Christmas Walk, which typically draws thousands of people to Main Street, takes place tomorrow from 6-9 pm.

In Timmins a contract in the amount of just over 200k ($201,935, plus HST) for the design and installation of earthscape custom play structures at Melview Park in Porcupine has been awarded. The total cost of the project is $420,000, but he city has received almost half of that from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation.

No charges were laid as a result of a collision between a school bus and a snowplow that occurred yesterday in Sault Ste Marie. It happened following the afternoon run on Peoples Road. No children were on board at the time.
