Greater Sudbury Fire Services is cautioning area residents to stay off the ice. While they haven’t responded to any ice-related emergencies, with conditions changing they’re noting that ice is only beginning to form on local lakes and rivers.

Those in North Bay can strap on the skis. Snow crews have been putting in 12-hour shifts on Antoine Mountain, preparing the powder for another ski season. They open this Friday.

Snow removal continues in South Porcupine. Daytime removal from 7:30am – 4pm. Crews will be on Bruce, Lakeview, Golden, Crawford, Main and Powell.

Thankfully there were no injuries following a small garbage fire in the rear entrance of a Pine St. South yesterday morning in Timmins. Tenants of the two-storey office building were out together for a short time.

The UCCM Anishnaabe Police Service on Manioulin Island is reporting another successful Christmas food and toy drive with members of the public able to donate items at several collection sites around the Island. Among the items is a carload of toys, and non-perishable food items.
