Today is Provincial Election Day in Ontario. This is the 44th general election for the Province. polling are open today between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.

A Water main break closed Tom Davies Square yesterday. That meant a special council meeting set to take place was be rescheduled. There is no word as to reopening.

Don’t be alarmed if you see an enhanced police presence in areas of North Bay today. The North Bay Police Service says that there will be Emergency Response Team training at various locations throughout the city.

Impending layoffs could be coming to the Town of Cochrane. The town has confirmed it is adjusting staffing levels to improve operation efficiency and support evolving needs.

A southern Ontario-based firm will lead construction of Algoma University’s Makwa Waakaa’igan. A $42-million contract was awarded following a public procurement process. All levels of Government, the city and the school are all contributing.

The Algoma District School Board says election signs at some poling stations have been removed. They were last seen in snowbanks in front of some Sault Ste. Marie schools this week.

Well, it’s here… the warmer weather and sunshine is a welcome sight for many, but the freeze/thaw cycle also means it’s pothole season. Greater Sudbury City and contract crews are out on area roadways making temporary repairs that will be fixed permanently during construction season. Drivers are thanked for their patience.

A point-in-time count has found that 444 remain un-holmed in North Bay. The numbers are now being discussed with strategies in mind at District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board level.

Keep the shovel handy… Timmins could snow and plenty of it. A note from Environment Canada says heaviest snow is expected this morning. Light snow over the area this evening expected to intensify overnight, with bursts of heavy snow possible at times. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate.
