Laurentian University has reappointed Dr. Tammy Eger to a 5-year tear. She has been reappointed as the university’s vice-president of research, a position she has held since 2020. It begins July 1.

West Nipissing council is talking a pay raise. Discussion is on as to whether council and mayor should receive a salary bump and will continue at its next meeting. No decision has been made yet.

The city of Timmins is looking for opinions on how to improve hazardous household waste collection. To that end, they’re conducting a survey involving residents to decrease the amount of paint, aerosols, single-use batteries, pesticides, and other chemicals that end up in the city dump each year.

In Sault Ste Marie, a 140-foot steel bridge to connect hikers and cyclists between the city’s John Rowswell Hub Trail and the mountain bike trails in Hiawatha Highlands is now in place. Once fully installed and a new trail is completed, the bridge will help link the city’s Hub Trail system with the numerous mountain bike trails.

The Cochrane Food Bank has received accreditation from Food Banks Canada. It’s the first time in the Cochrane facility’s 30-year history that it applied. The process took about a year. Accreditation allows the Cochrane Food Bank to apply for grants from the national organization to help its operation in a number of ways.

And a pair of Idaho brothers are believed to be the youngest people to earn Junior Ranger badges at all 63 U.S. national parks — as well as 108 other National Park Service Sites. The boys, now aged 8 and 6, are no doubt looking for new ideas as the title of having the most badges is one they’re happy to wear.

The Gross revenues generated from automated speed cameras in Greater Sudbury totaled $1.344 million in 2024. That translates into net revenue of $753,003 when items such as operating costs and an allowance for unpaid fines are factored in. City staff are seeking the committee’s approval for its proposals on how to spend the money.
