The Election results are in! In Northern Ontario, Sudbury Liberals sent Vivian Lapointe back to Ottawa, Jim Bélanger scores a win in the new Sudbury East-Manitoulin-Nickel Belt riding, ousting Liberal Marc Serre. For Nip-Temiskaming, Liberal Pauline Rochefort squeezed out a win over Conservative Garry Keller. Conservative Gaetan Malette won in Kapuskasing-Timmins-Mushkegowuk, while Liberal incumbent Terry Sheehan won in Sault Ste. Marie-Algoma.

The City of Greater Sudbury is making sandbags available due to rising water levels on several area waterways. This is after Conservation Sudbury has issued a flood warning.

Meanwhile, the Timmins area is now under a flood warning after an update from the Mattagami Region Conservation Authority. This includes Porcupine Lake, the Porcupine River, the Mattagami River, and Kamiskotia Lake.

Jean-Pierre (Jay) Barbeau, the CAO of the Municipality of West Nipissing, was elected the incoming chair of Laurentian University’s board of governors during its April 25 meeting. His one-year term as board chair begins July 1.

There was one new wildfire reported in the Northeast Region yesterday. North of Sault Ste Marie, Chapleau 1 was a 0.1 hectare fire that was located approximately two kilometers southeast of Jones Landing and east of Highway 17.
