Another alarm will trigger phones throughout Greater Sudbury today at 3 p.m. It’s all in connection with the Sudbury Alerts emergency notification system. Once again, there is no concern for safety, and it’s only a test.

Plans are underway to repair the Trout Creek Community Centre. During their May 6 council meeting, Powassan authorized staff to issue a request for proposals (RFP) for the design and costing of the Community Centre’s remediation work.

Volunteers are gathering this weekend to clean up downtown Timmins this weekend. DIY Community Health is hosting a community clean-up on Saturday, May 10. The clean-up will target high-traffic areas like Hollinger Park, and the Timmins Transit station near the library.

Flooding continues to be an issue in various issues in Northern Ontario. Amid high water volumes, eroded banks along Root River in Sault Ste Marie have led to downed trees in Wishart Park, located in the city’s north end with numerous walking trails through natural scenery. The plan is to get the trails cleared by the summer.

The power is back on following an outage this morning in Sudbury. Due to weather-related damage to electrical equipment, approximately 1,500 customers in the Lasalle area were out starting at 1:40 a.m. Those without power should contact GSH.
