Changes to the recycling program in Ontario, courtesy of the Province, could create savings for Greater Sudbury. The City says taking charge of it could save more than $2 million starting in 2026.

North Bay Fire and Emergency Services is urging all residents to refrain from unauthorized outdoor burning. This following several recent grass fires that posed serious threats to public safety and property. Thankfully, there were no reported injuries.

Paramedic students will soon have a new tool to test drive. The Cochrane District Services Board has donated a recently retired ambulance and power cot to the Northern College Paramedic program.

Seasonal road work in Sault Ste. Marie has already begun and more will be underway shortly. Peoples Road will see reconstruction from Churchill Avenue to Penno Road. A multi-use trail will also be added from Second Line to Churchill Avenue.

Sudbury officials were unanimous this week in granting Voyago a grant of just over $271l (271,140) for their development of a bus transportation operations centre near Lively.
The building is largely completed and expected to open likely within the next month.

In North Bay, the Dionne Quints Museum is about to begin. Starting this Friday, they’re open from 10 am to 4 pm every Friday and Saturday, into the fall.

The flood watch for the Mattagami River in the Timmins area has ended. For weeks, there were flood advisories in effect for the main river through Timmins. The remaining flood watch was terminated yesterday.

Sault Ste Marie police are reminding those who own portable basketball hoops that they must move them back when not in use. In short, they’re in the way of larger vehicles, such as school buses, and they shouldn’t be left on city streets.

The North Shore Health Network (NSHN) has announced another Emergency Department closure at the Thessalon Hospital site. Shut down yesterday, due to a physician shortage, they reopen at 8 a.m. on Saturday.
