The Sudbury Catholic District School Board is seeking one community member with financial expertise and business knowledge. It’s all for volunteer work on the SCDSB’s Audit Committee for a three-year term.

It’s Armed Forces Day in North Bay. The annual event is the 13th in-person event featuring air demonstrations, live music, and interactive military exhibits.

Work is starting on a project to expand and upgrade the airport in Timmins. A facelift to the tune of just over $188k ($188,458) has been awarded to design facade improvements and an addition to the Victor M. Power Airport.

The Crossings on the International Bridge at Sault Ste. Marie plunged in May. The latest numbers indicate one-way traffic crossings across the Ontario-Michigan span totaled 65,366 for May. That’s down by 29.8 per cent when compared to the same month last year.
In Elliot Lake, the splash pad at Kiwanis Park is now open for the summer season for all to enjoy! Operating hours are 9 am to 9 pm daily.

Road work is starting in Huron Shores. The work starts today in the Green Lane and Ansonia Road areas.

While the snow is well behind us… Sudbury City staff have recommended that the Lively Ski Hill remain municipally operated. This is in light of last year’s skyrocketing attendance numbers. City council members will vote on whether to greenlight the recommendation June 10th.

A close call of sorts at the Steve Omischl Sports Complex this week. This is after a backhoe apparently hit a gas line at the site, under construction. Thankfully, there was no danger to any buildings and fire crews ensured safety while Enbridge Gas dealt with the situation.

Hundreds were without power today in Timmins. The interruption started just east of the Highway 101 and Highway 655 intersection. It went north to Ross Avenue and as far west as Pine Street in some sections. The cause is under investigation.

A new community pantry has opened in Sault Ste Marie to help those in need. The Algoma Community Pantry Bartering Foundation is located in the former Wood Wyant cleaning supplies storefront at 281 North St. Operating hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

In MANITOWANING on Manitoulin Island, a special Assiginack council meeting has defeated a motion to pass this year’s budget with a nine percent increase. Both Mayor Reid and Councilor Elliott noted a previous two percent increase in last year’s budget, is the only increase that previous councils have made over the past 12 years.
