The City of Greater Sudbury is warning GOVA Transit riders about a fraudulent Facebook page claiming to sell discounted bus passes and ride cards. The city said official GOVA service updates and fare information are only available through the City’s webpage and Facebook page.

The Purolator Tackle Hunger campaign in support of the North Bay Food Bank is underway. About 2,000 Purolator Red Bags were dropped off in select neighborhoods around the city. They can be filled with non-perishable food items and left on doorsteps at 9 am on Saturday.

The Timmins Police Service (TPS) has released its annual report for 2024, which provides a statistical snapshot of its day-to-day duties. They say public safety remains a collective responsibility, and over the last year, the goal has been to strengthen relationships with community partners while enhancing crime prevention initiatives, mental health support, and social services outreach.

The city of Sault Ste. Marie says there are plenty of reasons to jump on the city bus this summer. Initiatives include weekend rides to Pointe Des Chenes Day Park, as well as free trips for kids to the pump track, skateboard park, splash pads and city pools.

A high fire danger rating has been set in Elliot Lake. Burning can only be conducted after 6 p.m. or before 10 a.m.

Greater Sudbury’s police chief has been honoured by the Governor General of Canada. At a special ceremony Chief Sara Cunningham was made a Member of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces alongside 81 other officers from police services across the country.

A prominent sculpture on display in the city for three decades is being repatriated. The Nibiising 26-foot white pine sculpture once stood at the corner of Seymour Street and the Highway 11/17 bypass. It was put in storage in 2018.

The Manitoulin Detachment of the OPP is seeking a missing person – Greg.  They’ve had a heavy presence in the Agnew Lake Road area in Sables Spanish Rivers Township.

Numbers continue to come for from 2024. The Timmins Police Service  communications centre answered over 30,200 9-1-1 calls, for an average of over 82 calls per day.

Special Olympic Torch Runs are back in northern Ontario. Two northern Ontario towns held Torch Runs for Special Olympics in New Liskeard and Elliot Lake.

Sault Ste Marie Officers were in a grade 4/5 class discussing the dangers of drugs and alcohol, signs someone may be impaired, and the importance of not getting in a vehicle with an impaired driver. Police say these conversations are key to empowering youth to make safe, informed choices.
