Overall crime down 4% in Greater Sudbury. This is after a notable increase in some numbers in 2023. Since then all of those have dropped overall.

The North Bay Public Library has a grant for the coffee and conversation program for seniors. Three North Bay senior organizations will get grants totalling $48,000 through the Seniors Community Grant Program as part of Ontario’s celebration of Seniors Month.

Meanwhile, a Northern Ontario services board has broken ground on a major expansion to Cadence Senior Residence. The goal of the Cochrane District Services Board’s (CDSB) project is to help address the growing demand for seniors’ housing in the region.

The Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is looking for a missing man. Greg, a 50-year-old male, are looking for a missing man. Greg, a 50-year-old male who was last seen in the community of Webbwood on June 15, 2025. Greg was last seen wearing a light-coloured jacket and dark-coloured pants.

Doctors are needed to help Timmins break a record. So far this year, five physicians have signed on to work in the city. With recruitment efforts attracting four doctors a year for the past five years, 2025 is on pace for a record-setting year.

Sudbury City Council has agreed to maintain a 4.8% water/wastewater rate increase… at least for now. Average annual tax levy increases of between approximately 3.2 per cent to 4.4 per cent are also in the city’s long-range financial plan for the next 10 years

A new ice resurfacer id bound for Callander’s Bill Barber Rink. Council has decided to accept a donation of a Zamboni ice resurfacer, ready to go for the next winter season’s season.

In the Province a WSIB strike drags on between Workplace Safety and Insurance Board workers and their provincial employer. The union says its 3,600 members are locked out; the board says they are on strike. The union head was in Sudbury talking to members on the picket lines.

In North Bay, work continues on the Lakeshore Drive facility. The update on construction of the new $63 million Community and Recreation Centre indicates the project is “on schedule (and) on budget.”

The province says it’s refocusing the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) to “protect the region’s economy now and in the future”. This is, as the board approved nearly 80 projects at its meeting in Timmins this week.

Sault Ste. Marie Police are asking the public to avoid the area near the marina on Pine Street. It’s all part of an ongoing investigation. The site is secure and there is no threat to the public.

Spruce Beach on Elliot Lake will be open for the summer season from Noon to 7pm with lifeguards on duty beginning June 28th… that’s next weekend. Those with questions should contact recreation@elliotlake.ca.

Clive Cross, which his owners claim is the first thoroughbred horse trained on Manitoulin Island, had his maiden win at a race last Friday at Woodbine Racetrack. He broke from the gate and was third at one time but powered through to win the race. He’s getting plenty of applause, as when it came to the race, there was no horsing around.
