
Highway 17 has been reopened despite the damage caused by a severe weekend storm. This comes less than 24 hours after the storm ripped through the area, causing significant damage to several communities and provincial parks. A state of emergency remains in place in both Bonfield and Calvin. Drivers are asked use caution and avoid unnecessary travel within Calvin as the roads are still compromised. Access to Samuel de Champlain Park is blocked, as of news time. A storm team is in from London today, to asses the whether a tornado touched down, to asses damage and to aid in helping to determine next steps.
Sudbury’s annual infrastructure spending gap has now been estimated at $62M. In 2023, the gap was estimated at $130M, though city staff have clarified the estimate is a ‘tabletop exercise’ which changes as new estimates and service levels are factored in.
One of Temagami’s top scenic spots is officially open for the summer. The Temagami Fire Tower, perched on Caribou Mountain, reopened to the public just ahead of the weekend. It is free to climb.

The provincial government has announced it’s investing more than $2.2 million to help rebuild Branch 25 of the Royal Canadian Legion in Sault Ste Marie.. The funding will support reconstruction on the ground floor of a new multi-level residential complex in Sault
Ste. Marie. A portion will also go toward restoring the Wawanosh Monument, which commemorates the former Wawanosh Residential School where the Legion now stands.
A power outage went off… as planned in Elliot Lake. Hydro One scheduled a planned power outage for the Elliot Lake area on Sunday, beginning at 9 a.m. and scheduled to last until 3 p.m. Affected Hydro One customers have been notified via phone. Those with power issues should call hydro one.

A massive LEGO recreation of the Chi-Cheemaun ferry is set to spend the summer on display at the Tom Thomson Gallery in Owen Sound. The detailed model, built with over 90,000 pieces and featuring 600 mini figures, stretches nine feet long. It took a month to complete and is worth a visit, even if ferries don’t float your boat.
