Construction continues at a site in downtown Sudbury, Ont., where a high-rise apartment is set to materialize this summer. The Manitou Project is a 17-storey tower that will house 347 units intended for seniors.

Summer is here, but coming fall of next fall, the four school boards serving Temiskaming students will be launching a new student busing transportation consortium to help with cost and driver shortages.

Laurentian University’s French-language teacher’s training program has received provincial funding for new student seats. 30 of them. The university said these allocations could be for students entering its consecutive (two-year) or multi-session hybrid program (three-year part-time).

Upgrades are scheduled for the pool at the North Bay YMCA this summer, noting with that, comes a closure. Starting tomorrow… the Aquatic Centre will close for approximately 13 weeks while construction crews fully replace the pool deck floor system, install upgraded tile, and improve the pool gutters.

Meanwhile, work begins early next month towards finally reopening Norman Street in Timmins. It’s been closed since spring flooding. The city says the layer of pavement is beyond repair. As an interim repair, the asphalt will be ground down to compacted gravel that can be safely maintained.

The Blooms for Change contest wraps up today in Sault Ste Marie. It comes with an annual event encouraging residents to plant purple flowers to raise awareness regarding IPV.

OPP are making their annual plea for safety ahead of tomorrow. They are ramping up enforcement and education around safety equipment that plays a critical role in saving lives on roads, trails and waterways.
