The Sudbury of Sudbury’s watermain has been a topic of discussion at city council. Built in the 70’s… it is roughly the same age as the Calgary Watermain that broken last year leaving thousands of Calgarians without water. That said, at last check, the water main in Greater Sudbury which stretches from the Wanapitei Water Treatment Plant approximately 13 kilometres west to the Ellis Reservoir in Sudbury’s Minnow Lake neighbourhood was said to be in good condition.

Ontario Forest Fires says there are now six forest fires in the northeast region after four new ones were discovered Monday. One of the fires is under control while the other five are being held, the group said in its daily update on the area’s forest fire situation.

Closures continue on Lakeshore Drive in North Bay. Infrastructure upgrades and new traffic signals are being done at Lakeshore Drive in North Bay, meaning the road will be closed to the public for two weeks.

Sault Ste Marie Police are thanking the public after a missing teen, Ellie Whalen has been located “safely” and is no longer considered missing. Ellie was was reported missing Sunday. She has been located safe and sound.

In Elliot Lake, a Pump failure has been blamed as the caused of the closure at the community cool. The hope is that a replacement can installed during the summer shutdown.

After a hiatus of more than four years, University of Sudbury will welcome students once again this September, with the province coming through with $10.8M in funding.

A freshwater pool docking system could be coming to Birchaven Cove in North Bay. A report coming to council tonight will recommends a $114,000 contract be awarded to install the system.

A new aviation event aimed at drawing regional pilots and promoting local infrastructure is coming to Iroquois Falls. This is after council approved a request to host a fly-in day at the Iroquois Falls airport on Sept. 6.

Sudbury is considering demolishing Sudbury Arena when the new events centre is open, creating 160 new parking spaces. At least, that’s the idea is part of an update headed to the city council on July 15th.
