The power is back on after an outage yesterday in Sudbury. This is after a dump truck snapped a number of hydro poles in the Minnow Lake area. At it’s height, it affected 700 Greater Sudbury Utility customers.

North Bay’s Homecoming Festival is only three and a half weeks away. Officials say the free ‘celebration of the century’ from Aug. 1-3 is bringing the community together to celebrate the past 100 years.

A water issue has temporarily closed the OPP detachment in the city’s east end. The South Porcupine detachment’s main location at the corner of Harold and Legion Street is closed. All of the operations for the South Porcupine area are being done from the Iroquois Falls detachment, which is located in Monteith.

Walmart in the Sault was evacuated this afternoon due to a potential gas leak. Customers and employees were outside as of around 5 p.m. It’s unclear what the cause was, but there were no reported injuries.

In Elliot Lake… a portion of the Fire Tower Lookout Parking Lot as well as the lookout cupola will be closed to the public during a sporting event this weekend, but the lookout will still be open to the public.

Sudbury-owned downtown land is apparently ‘attracting interest from developers’. With a $200M event centre in its early stages, the city is working to map a vision for downtown Sudbury’s south district, including what to do with the Sudbury Community Arena.
