
Event centre prep will cause temporary parking changes in downtown Sudbury. Disruptions start today and go until August 8, as the city begins what’s called a geotechnical investigation tied to the future Event Centre.
While some of Northern Ontario was in a heat wave this weekend… South River updated its policy to protect its crossing guards from being out in the cold, when that season comes around. The Near North District School Board will notify parents that the crossing guards in South River will not be out on days where the temperature is below -35.

The Don Shepherdson Memorial Arena in New Liskeard is getting a new roof. The Ontario government announced $484,100 in funding last week to replace the roof. The new roof is expected to improve energy efficiency and extend the building’s lifespan.

A Timmins business needs repair after water and structural damage. Located on the 260 block of Third Avenue. It appears to have been caused by a broken pipe or clogged drain on the second floor of the former Albert’s building, just west of Spruce Street.
It’s another busy week in Sudbury when it comes to repairs and upgrades. Among the work, Bridge rehabilitation work will reduce traffic to one lane on Morgan Road (at the Vermillion River Bridge) until Sept. 30th. In addition, bridge repairs to the MR 35 Nolin Creek Bridge (between Big Nickel Mine Road and Lasalle Boulevard extension) will reduce traffic to one lane in each direction until Thursday.
Some Sudbury Students have been able to launch businesses all thanks to the Sudbury Summer Company Program. 16 Greater Sudbury students have launched businesses this summer through the city program, open to ages 15-29, which offers $3,000 grants, mentorship and training that helps with startup basics.
Espanola’s $6.6M Centre Street upgrade is underway. The construction is in Phase 4 of the city’s $6.6M Connecting Link Project. Work includes sewer upgrades and road resurfacing and is more than half funded by provincial and federal grants.
Meanwhile, Progress at Omischl arena project site in North Bay is continuing. The City of North Bay has entered a new phase in the construction of its twin-pad arena and community centre, with steel assembly now underway. This phase will continue over the next 6 to 7 weeks. They say the project is still on track for an August 2026 completion date.
A New logistics centre has opened in Iroquois Falls. It’s taken more than eight years since the closure of the Resolute Forest Products paper mill in Iroquois Falls but the ribbon cutting has taken place.
Six months after Sault Ste. Marie was named one of 28 communities set to receive a share of nearly $500 million in provincial funding for homelessness and addiction treatment, it’s still waiting. The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Algoma, is the designated service provider for the local Homelessness & Addiction Recovery Treatment.
