Collège Boréal in Sudbury has received $4,856,740 in federal funding to expand its Auxiliary Nursing Program. The announcement was made this week. The goal is to increase the number of students enrolling in and graduating from its Auxiliary Nursing Program, while improving access to health care in French and support the development of a bilingual health workforce across Northern Ontario.

It’s back to the drawing board for at least one municipality in Northern Ontario. Mattawan says they’re not interested in amalgamating with Mattawa. The towns says it has no plans to amalgamate with their neighbour and has declined to enter into discussions on the matter.

The Timmins Police Service is asking for the the public’s help to find a missing 17-year-old woman. Kaiden is described as approximately 5’1” and 110 pounds with long light brown hair.

Officials in North Bay say the Merrick Landfill has reopened following a fire yesterday. Officials in North Bay say it was closed much of the day after a fire on what’s called the tipping face. There is no word as to the cause… and no reported injuries.

Sudbury Mayor Paul Lefebvre says he has received assurances from provincial officials that completing the long-stalled widening of Highway 69 to four lanes remains a government priority. In a release, Greater Sudbury’s mayor said he met with provincial cabinet ministers, MPPs and senior government officials about the city’s priorities during the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Conference this week in Ottawa.

A year after the Lillabelle Lake Road Bridge was closed due to significant deterioration, the town of Cochrane will weigh in on how to fix it, next month. On the table, choice of $200,000 in temporary repairs or wait for a permanent replacement was deferred.

The Timmins Police Service is advising that the previously reported missing 17-year-old, female, Kaiden, who had been the subject of a missing persons incident reported to the Timmins Police Service on August 19th, has been located. This matter is deemed to be a closed incident with no further police action required.

An open house hosted by PUC in Sault Ste Marie yesterday sought to inform the public about a pair of proposed solar projects in the city’s west end. While no decisive word was given, PUC hopes construction could begin as early as 2028.
