
Ottawa says it will keep working to help save Kap Paper… the northern Ontario paper mill in Kapuskasing that announced this week it was forced to idle operations due to a lack of immediate federal support. The Government says it had “come to the table” with the federal backing for the company, which directly employs about 420 people and supports 2,500 jobs in the region.

A Blue-green algae has been confirmed in a Foleyet lake. A visible bloom of the algae that can produce toxins is in Ivanhoe Lake, the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks has notified Public Health Sudbury and Districts (PHSD).

Ontario’s minimum wage is now set at $17.60 per hour, an increase of 40 cents. While it is a little different for students, the annualized wage increase of 2.4 per cent is based on the Ontario Consumer Price Index and will boost the paycheques of approximately 800,000 workers.

In 2026, the City of Timmins will receive $4.28 million through the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF).
The Sault Trailblazers Snowmobile Club says, well ahead of the season… they have announced closures of two key trails during its upcoming season. It expects to close the trail connecting to De Marco’s Boots and Saddles restaurant at 2667 Second Line West, as well as D201F – a 170-kilometre loop from Searchmont to Aubrey Falls. It short, it was done to protect the smaller clubs in our district from folding.
Gore Bay Town Council has voted unanimously in favour of having town staff explore options for restructuring its municipal boundaries. This will include gauging the province’s support and directing that no new water service connections, extensions or users shall be permitted to the Town of Gore Bay water system, providing that are not within the geographical boundaries of the town.
