Sudbury’s Melvin Avenue Habitat for Humanity project is getting a boost from the Royal Canadian Legion.  The home will include accessibility features and design elements that consider veterans’ needs.

A North Bay group has launched a winter boot campaign for those in need. The Compassionate Committee for the Homeless is calling on residents of North Bay to donate new winter gear or sponsor boots ahead of colder months.

Following another busy season… This coming Saturday, Oct. 11, will be the final edition of the mount joy farmer. The season, which will go again next year… usually begins in late May.

Emergency water main shut off service has been thrown for part of Elizabeth Walk in Elliot Lake today. This follows a water main break… residents in the area are being urged not to use their taps.

A notable building in Sault Ste Marie is up for sale… it’s the Doctor’s Building. It’s 955 Queen St. E. listed for $1.9 million. Located near the old hospital, the building is well known for housing several physician offices and health-care services.

Vale in Sudbury begins annual reclamation with aerial seeding starting today. Low-flying helicopters will be a common sight near Sudbury as the mining giant begins its yearly reclamation project using aircraft to spread seed and fertilizer across degraded landscapes.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) North East Region and North Bay Police Service, are teaming up for CAMSafe Week. During that week, members will be canvassing select neighborhoods in North Bay and surrounding communities, going door-to-door to provide residents and business owners with important safety information and resources.

High-speed access will now reach into remote corners of Greater Sudbury.
Residences in Lively area, including camps on Panache, will be among first eligible customers. It is part of a government-funded project to connect thousands of rural households in Northern Ontario to the service.

The paper mill in Kapuskasing that was set to be idled will run another day. The provincial and federal governments have agreed to what is being called “a path forward that provides near-term stability for Kap Paper while partners continue work on a long-term solution”

A Sault Ste Marie resident has pulled off a three-peat by winning the Algoma Farmers’ Market annual Pumpkin Weigh-Off held Saturday at the Roberta Bondar Pavilion. The winning pumpkin weighed 308 pounds. A pleasant surprise, following a tough season.

Hudson Township has blown down the proposal for a wind turbine project in the area. There was a campaign underway that could see the massive windmills… but residents as early as this Spring and Summer were posting signs stating their objection.
