Sudbury City Council is infusing nearly $1.75 million into addressing homelessness. It’s to fund additional hours of operation at three warming spaces in the city core.

If the weather cooperates, this Thanksgiving weekend will be the last weekend of operations this season for the Heritage Railway and Carousel Company in North Bay. The waterfront attractions plan to be open Saturday through Monday, before re-opening next spring.

More snowmobile trails will be closing this winter due to a number of factors, including cost. The Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs district from Temagami to Timmins, Iroquois Falls and Foleyet say the majority of the closed trails, run parallel to others.

Following the opening of the United Way Millennium Time Capsule in Sault Ste. Marie, the city and local United Way are teaming up once again to bury a Mosaic Time Capsule that will be sealed and opened 25 years from now. Those wishing to participate should contact the library.

Elliot Lake has completed its asset management plan for 2025. The overall goal of the plan is to clear any infrastructure debt by the year 2064, assuming current service levels or by 2066 for enhanced service levels.

With the Billings township landfill on Manitoulin Island at and exceeding its end-of-life date and capacity levels, council is hopeful that the province will approve an extension. In addition, the hope is to look at all options to reduce the volume of waste going into the landfill.

The incident involving material from the Glencore smelter in the community of Falconbridge will be the subject of a town hall-style meeting. It will take place next week. The purpose of the meeting is to provide updates and respond to community questions.
