Public Health Sudbury and districts has issues third statement on Glencore dust release.  In short it expects no chronic or severe health effects from the Sept. 23 release of dust over Falconbridge from the company’s smelter but still warns people to be protect themselves from the material.

In Callander, the Breeze beachfront condo project is ready to go, with construction on the 38-unit building set to begin later this fall. The project is expected to be completed in early 2027.

Meanwhile, building on its 60-year history, Timmins bus company Tisdale Bus Lines’ has broken ground on a new maintenance facility in South Porcupine. At their current Timmins facility, mechanics and service technicians are working in a 3,600 square feet, and struggling for space.

The Sault airport has a new boss. Terry Bos of the Sault Ste. Marie Airport Development Corp. has been named president of AMCO, with Chris Drumm of Lake Simcoe Regional Airport stepping into the role of vice-president

The Thessalon and Richards Landing ERs will to close for 24 hours. All due to a physician shortage, both emergency departments are expected to be closed from 8 a.m. today to 8 a.m. tomorrow.

Royal Canadian Legion Branch 76 in Sudbury has launched a program meant to honour local veterans and active service personnel.  Banners, which includes a face, a name and the conflict they served in. Ten of the banners will be displayed along the busy stretch of the Kingsway between Barrydowne Road and Silver Hills Drive while the other dozen will be going up along Minto Street near Memorial Park downtown. Sudbury is the 47th community in Ontario to adopt the commemorative banners.

The City of Timmins is moving forward with plans to build a new fire hall for the Timmins Fire Department. City council has awarded a four-year contract for architectural and engineering services to  in the amount of $1,871,560

Meanwhile, the federal government is providing $1.7 million to help small and medium-sized enterprises in the Sault Ste Marie area.  MP Terry Sheehan announced the funding for the Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre this week.

Construction of a new pedestrian crossover on Oak Street continues. The city says the new crossover will be replacing the “courtesy crossing” between Fraser and Ferguson streets and will enhance pedestrian safety.

And four northern Ontario universities have ranked in Maclean’s Top 20. Lakehead, Laurentian, Nipissing and Algoma are all in the top 20 primarily undergraduate schools. While Lakehead led at pack at No. 6 everyone is showing they can, make the grade.
