
The recommended speed limit increase on Municipal Road 15 in Sudbury will go ahead. The bump will go from 60 km/h to 70 km/h will proceed with a minor adjustment, and two stop signs will be removed on Dell Street. The decision will need to be ratified by city council as a whole on Oct. 21st.
The return of the Northlander passenger train has the Near North District School Board focused on rail safety. Safe Schools Team is partnering with the Ontario Northland Transportation Commission (ONTC) to bring rail safety education to all students across the district. The Toronto to Timmins train will travel through many communities.
When the next municipal election does come around, there will be in-person and virtual voting in the 2026 municipal election in Timmins. Last week, the use of voting machines and online voting was approved. Timmins council has in turn approv ed the ways residents can vote in the October 2026 municipal election.

A site on Laforest Road in Timmins, is now being set up as a new telecommunications landing station. The Ottawa-based satellite communications company recently announced they will develop a landing station which will connect data from what is known as its advanced low-earth orbit (LEO) satellite network, to points of presence and fibre in northern Ontario.
