A Juvenile bear struck near Sudbury airport is making a remarkable recovery. It was struck by a vehicle Nov. 29 on Skead Road. Pete the bear is recuperating at the Bear With Us sanctuary near Sprucedale. If all goes according to plan, the hope is to return him to the wild.

Avid birders have managed to shake off the cold to temperatures to participate in North Bay’s annual Christmas Bird Count, This year marks North Bay’s 47th year participating in North America’s longest-running citizen science project, the Christmas Bird Count.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported in a fire that crews battled for hours on Sunday. The blaze at an industrial complex on Laforest Road was reported around 4 a.m. on Dec. 14. The cause is still under investigation.

While Christmas is still ahead of us, the James L. McIntyre Centennial Library in the Soo is already looking ahead to next year. To that end they’re planning several activities on Friday, Jan. 2, including a screening of a film. There is no charge to members, nor the community.

Elliot Lake is all set to ring in the New Year with an event on the cooler side. The inaugural Cold 4 a Cause Polar Plunge will go ahead New Year’s Day. It happened at Spine Beach, where the fun will begin at 1 p.m. It’s all to bring in needed supplies for the Elliot Lake Emergency Food Bank.

The Temiskaming Transit Service Review has issued an update. They say they have completed a comprehensive Transit Service Review. The study examined current transit performance, community feedback, and several options to improve transit service.
