Just in time for the holiday season, the Queen’s Athletic Skating Oval is now open for the season. Weather permitting, hours of operation are Monday to Friday, from 4-10 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 12-10 p.m. The Oval will be closed on Christmas Day but open Boxing Day.

The North Bay Sports Hall of Fame is accepting nominations. Officials say recipients are selected by the hall’s Sports Awards Committee, with significant input from the community and school sports organizations. Winners will be honoured at the 45th Annual Induction and Awards Dinner in May 2026.

FedNor is investing close to $5 million in the Temiskaming economy. It will be spread across six Temiskaming area enterprises. The announcement was by Nipissing-Timiskaming MP Pauline Rochefort wo says the announcement benefits Temiskaming Shores but also the surrounding communities.

The City is advising residents of the following service and facility changes during the holiday season. Among the hours, city administrative offices will be closed beginning Dec. 24 at noon, and all day on Dec. 25, 26, and Jan. 1. This includes the Civic Centre, the Sault Transit Office and Public Works office.

Elliot Lake city staff say they’re continuing to work on opening the Kiwanis Park rink. That said due to the recent mild weather as well as rain and snow the rink is not yet open for use. City crews will continue ice making as the weather allows and the hope to have the rink open as soon as they are able.

A collision in Serpent River has closed all lanes of Highway 17. The closure is posted at Handi Spot Road, according to Ontario 511. Additional information will be posted as it becomes available. Drivers are thanked for their patience and there is no word as to the cause nor injuries.

Timmins/Cochrane Residents are in for another cold night and City Hall has issued another extreme cold weather alert. The overnight windchill is expected to hit -25 and that means the risk of frostbite and due to prolonged exposure. Anyone needing a place to go is encouraged to go to Living Space on Spruce St.
