Sudbury city council will ask the Province to integrate water safety training into the elementary school curriculum. This follows a motion during this week’s council meeting. It would be for water safety and what’s known as the swim-to-survive training.

Jordy Carr is Callander’s new mayor. This is after council appointed her to the position at its January 27 meeting this week. Previous to the appointment, Carr was the town’s deputy mayor. Former mayor Robb Noon resigned suddenly on December 1st.

Three years after the last time they were in Timmins, the Canadian U18 curling championships are being hosted by the McIntyre Curling Club. It happens next months from February 8th to 14th. Four Northern Ontario rinks will complete against teams’ nation wide.

Residents of Huron Shores are being urged to take extra precautions as extreme cold conditions persist across the region. The Municipality of Huron Shores issued a reminder this week warning that prolonged exposure to cold temperatures and wintery weather.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service says. stay off the tracks. This is after receiving reports of snowmobiles illegally riding on local railway tracks. Its not a safe nor legal place to ride. Conditions, helmets, and noise make all make it hard to be aware of surroundings.

Municipal costs are up. 4.5 per cent under the new DTSSAB budget. After drawing $400,000 from reserves, the district’s social services administration board will be passing on an average 4.49 per cent increase and moving ahead with 4.5 as we roll though the year.
