
With the provincial government ending its seven-year tuition freeze earlier this month, Cambrian College’s board of governors is increasing its fees by the maximum allowable amount. Domestic tuition fees will be increasing by two per cent at the school come the fall.
Alouette Bus Lines has hired cab drivers to continue some routes during the labor disruption. Apparently non-union drivers have been dispatched this week. In a note to parents yesterday, the organization says they’re continuing to work on contingency plans.
Crime stats from last year says show break-and-enter calls are down. That said, full numbers on crime stats report were presented at the Timmins Police Service board meeting, showing an overall increase in calls were up by just over 800 from 2025 compared to 2024.
Sault Ste. Marie city councilors have agreed find just over $171,700 ($171,709) from city emergency funds to aid city sewers. It’s all to but a machine that winches a mechanical bucket between manholes to remove solid debris from sewers, needed for the city.
Province money will help with upgrades to the Massey water distribution system in Algoma-Manitoulin. The funding comes from the province’s Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program’s Health and Safety Water Stream to the tune of just shy of $4.7 million ($4,163,737).
