Key dates for the Oct civic election have been decided. The city of Sudbury is handling this year’s civic election similarly to the previous election in 2022. Candidates can submit their nomination paperwork from May 1 to Aug. 21. Election day is October 26.

Numbers are in and tourism in North Bay generated more than $120 million in visitor spending in 2025, with overnight stays exceeding 240,000, according to preliminary data. Total visitor spending rose 5.5 per cent compared to 2024.

A teddy bear wild clinic is coming to Northern College. Students who are with the wildlife rehabilitation will take part. It all goes ahead on March 7th in Haileybury, and those looking for information can contact the municipality.

The president of Laurentian University’s staff union wants a new vote on salary increases for executives. At a special in-camera meeting in the fall, the board voted to increase the salaries of Laurentian president Lynn Wells and the university’s provost, Malcolm Campbell. Nationally, the number of new study permits is limited to 150,000 annually, down from 305,900 in 2025.

The city is looking for feedback when it comes to future plans for the Sam Jacks Recreation Complex and the Steve Omischl Sports Complex. With recreation programming moving to the new Community and Recreation Centre, once complete, officials are looking to reimagine the Sam Jacks site and surrounding lands and guide the future use of city-owned lands around the Omischl site.

This winter the city has once again experienced significant snowfall that has placed added strain on the city’s snow removal efforts beyond typical seasonal conditions. Environment Canada says they will be pulling the plug on a staple service, for some. They will disconnect its national Weatheradio network effective March 16th. Among other sites, transmitter sites in northeastern Ontario include Sudbury, Little Current, North Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, Temagami, and Timmins. There are also four transmitters serving Algonquin Park.
