Australian company coming to Sudbury

An Australia-based lithium company says, with the growing demand for electric cars, they’re looking to set up shop in Sudbury. Lepidico, with a head office in Perth, is planning to launch a plant in the Nickel City that will extract lithium concentrate from hard-rock deposits. The company says they will likely be setting up an industrial park in the city, and employ as many as 70 people during its demonstration phase.
 

Construction to expand moving ahead on MR35

After decades of waiting… construction have gone along MR35. This is to see the expansion of the roadway, that could see a completion date of late 2019 or early 2020. Despite being a challenge as the roadway runs parallel to the railway tracks, reports say that the roadwork will include culverts and watermains and will help link cycling trails to different parts of the city.
 

Charges laid following altercation

North Bay Police say that a 37-year-old has been arrested, following an incident yesterday on Main Street. It was around 9:30 pm when the call went out from the 200-block area regarding an altercation between parties known to each other. Another man, also in his 30’s was taken to hospital with an injury requiring medical attention.
 

77k in Narcotics seized in Elliot Lake

Narcotics with an estimated street value of more than $77,000 has been seized in Elliot lake. This is following the execution of a search warrant on Hergott Avenue. In addition, more than $2,500 in cash was seized. A 29-year-old will be in court next month.
 
 

Water around popular Sudbury location, no good for swimming

For those in Sudbury looking to hit the beach this weekend, at least one location will have to wait. Public Health Sudbury & Districts has posted swimming advisory signs at and around the Northern Water Sports Centre. They way routine water samples show exceeding amounts of bacteria and it is not suitable for recreational use at this time. They will advise the public when that changes.
 

Transport Driver Charged following rollover

A transport driver has deemed at fault, at least by Police, following an accident that closed Highway 11 North for at least 7 hours yesterday. This is after a transport truck flipped over, spilling a load of steel pipe across the road near Pan Lake, by Collins Dr. and Highway 64, south of Temagami. The driver charged with careless driving.

One of Canada’s best-known service club organizations, Kin Canada, now has a Timmins Woman at the helm. Erin Thomson has been installed as the 99th National President of Kin Canada, which oversees more than 460 Kinsmen and Kinette Clubs across the country.
