New internal underground shaft coming
A mine, part of Glencore’s Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations, will soon have a new internal underground shaft. Canada Inc. said this week they’ve been awarded the design and construction of the new internal underground shaft for the Onaping Depth Project at Craig Mine. While there is no word as to how much the contract was worth. Glencore, has reportedly freed up $700 million for the project expected to begin in 2023.
OPP seeking witnesses, info on school fight
OPP on Manitoulin Island say they’re still looking for more information following a massive brawl at Manitoulin Secondary School. The school says the fight this week, and involved more than 50 students, and may have been fueled by racial overtones.
School board ready to move on architect
The Near North District School Board says they’re preparing a request for proposal in order to secure an architect. This is all to move on design and construction drawings of a new elementary school the W.J. Fricker site. Reports say that the ministry of education approved a school space template for the project that allows the board to seek the services of an architect. Fricker is slated to close next June with students heading E.W. Norman while the new school is being built.
Electrical grid being added to grandstand
Refurbishing of the Hollinger Park grandstand in Timmins continues. And it’s being announced that upgrades will soon be underway including the installation of a new electrical transformer in the Fred Salvador Athletic Field portion of the park. The city facilities manager says that, once done, there will be four individual transformer stations from which power can be drawn.
Gently used skates being requested
With hockey season right around the corner, a Sault Ste. Marie group says that they’re looking to get those involved, who wouldn’t be able to normally…. With a pair of skates. Community First says they will be at the Green for Life Memorial Gardens parking lot this coming Saturday collecting skates. More than 100 pairs of skates were donated in 2017.
