Fatal accident on Hw 17 claims one
One person has died, and two others have been taken to hospital following a collision. It happened yesterday afternoon on Highway 17 in Markstay-Warren. Police, fire and ambulance all responded to the call. The police investigation has thus far revealed that two vehicles were involved. The highway has since reopened, and the cause of the crash is under investigation.
Police look for suspect in Macs Mart Robbery
Sault Ste. Marie Police are asking for the public’s assistance in solving a robbery. They say it happened at the Macs Mart located at 650 Boundary Road. The suspect walked in, placed a duffle bag on the counter demanding cigarettes and cash along with money from the till. The suspect was described to be 6’2″ pale skin with bumps on his face. The suspect fled in a dark coloured car.
Residents warned of a Water Heater Scam
Residents in Sudbury are being warned of another scam. It has to do with Water Heater Rentals, over the phone. Multiple reports have come in from a number of customers who say they have received a phone call from someone claiming to be their current water heater rental provider. The caller ID is displaying a non-local number with area code 613, and residents are being told not to give out any information, but to simply hang up.
Injured personnel expected to recover
Three injured fire fighters from a North Bay Blaze are expected to recover. The fire happened Friday at Junior’s Tirecraft on Cholette Street. The fire, which started just after 7 p.m., is believed to have been electrical in nature, however the investigation is ongoing.

Kirland Lake OPP are reminded drivers leave themselves a little extra time out and about over the Christmas season. They say during the month of November they responded to 22 Motor Vehicle Collisions, which say 4 Personal Injuries. They say now that the cooler weather is here to stay drivers will have to adjust their driving accordingly.
OPP respond to hospital call, one charged
Meanwhile Elliot Lake Police responded to a disturbance call at a hospital over the weekend. It happened Saturday, just after 1:00am. Evidently a male had allegedly become intoxicated and was subsequently belligerent and rude with staff. He then refused to leave the property. Following an investigation a 54-year-old man is facing charges.
