 Nearly 700 procedures completed at HSN after surgeries resume

HSN says they continue to make great progress in re-introducing non-urgent surgeries and procedures. On June 1st HSN began the gradual reintroduction of some of these activities that were postponed since mid-March. From from June 1st until June 15th, HSN successfully performed 684 urgent and elective surgeries and procedures such as cancer surgeries, and hip replacements. This is about 60% of our normal activity in the surgical program.
 

Teacher and Board reach an agreement, awaiting ratification

The Rainbow District School Board and the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation have now reached a tentative contract agreement. The agreement is with the union representing more than 300 permanent secondary teachers in Sudbury, Espanola and Manitoulin Island.
 

Two new  fires discovered one declared out

There were two new fires discovered in the Northeast region by the late afternoon of June 18. While North Bay 12 was declared out at 0.1 of a hectare, Timmins 4 is not under control at this time at 0.1 of a hectare.
 

Timmins drinking water  gets a refreshing review

Timmins drinking water was given some high praise at this week’s city council meeting. The Water Filtration Plant report presented to city council this week showed that all water supplied from the Timmins Water Filtration Plant has consistently met or exceeded all health-related Ontario Drinking Water Standards.
 

Soo pools, splash pad not yet open

Sault Ste. Marie’s two outdoor pools and the Bellevue Park splash pad are not yet open, and don’t as of yet have an opening date. The cities CAO says there is no word yet as to even when an announcement will be made.

The Sault Ste. Marie Region Conservation Authority (SSMRCA) quietly reopened parking lots at its conservation areas at Fort Creek and Mark’s Bay this week. Public washrooms and the picnic pavilion at Fort Creek Conservation Area remain closed as a precaution due to COVID-19.
 

Heatwave continues for Timmins and area

Environment and Climate Change Canada is warning of the potential for record-breaking heat in parts of Eastern and Central Canada as spring prepares to give way to summer.
The ongoing heat wave in Timmins and area could very well continue. That is according to environment CANADA. The heat event is expected to continue through Sunday and bring with it… near or above 30 degrees with overnight lows in the mid to high teens into the weekend. Cooler air will be arriving on Monday.

Scammers are calling about your SIN Card… again.

Police are warning that North Bay area people are getting “compromised SIN card” calls today. Scammers pretend to be government employees and can be aggressive or use threats to get people to reveal personal or financial information or to pay a fictitious debt. Police say, simply hand up.
