New COVID-19 cases include one new case at Lasalle Secondary School in Greater Sudbury

Among the new case counts of COVID-19 this weekend. Public Health Sudbury & Districts reported eight new cases of COVID-19 yesterday. One new case was also announced by the Porcupine Health Unit.  Meanwhile, the Rainbow District School Board one person has tested positive for the virus at Lasalle Secondary School. Officials say that the person is at home in self-isolation. As a result of the case, two classes have been asked to self-isolate.
 

8-new cases of COVID announced by Algoma Health Unit

Algoma Public Health is also reporting a spike in case counts this morning. Eight new cases of COVID-19 in Algoma district, seven of which were acquired through close contact and one through unknown sources. Through contact tracing, Algoma Public Health notifies all close contacts directly. This is as Ontario announced 1328 new cases in the Province.
 

Two unrelated house fires this weekend

Timmins fire crews were called to a house fire this weekend. It happened on the east end of Ferguson Road in Porcupine. The area was closed to traffic for some time. There was no word as to the cause nor the total damage done.
 

Meanwhile,

 
Sault Ste Marie fire services responded to the scene of a house fire Saturday. It happened in the 100 block of Metzger Street, east of Goulais Avenue. Heavy fire damage to the roof of the residence was clearly visible. There were no thankfully fatalities or injuries. There is no word as to the cause.
 

Police looking for missing teen: 15-year-old Kayne Connelly

The Temiskaming OPP are looking for a missing teen. 15-year-old Kayne Connelly who was last seen on October 27 in the area of Dawson Point Road in Temiskaming Shores. He is described as being 6′ 2″ tall, slim build, long curly hair, and blue eyes.
 

Callander Council looking at a Change in Format

Callander council is looking at changes on how it runs its meetings. They include council begin its meetings one hour earlier at 6 p.m along with proposed changes involving the format. All the changes detailed in a staff report received by the mayor and council.
 

Alex Trebek Passes away at the age of 80

And the world was saddened this weekend with the news that famed Sudburian, Alex Trebek, passed away. Raised in Sudbury, he went on to become an Emmy Award-winning host of Jeopardy, a Guinness World Record-holder and an officer of the Order of Canada. In March of last year he announced he had Pancreatic Cancer. Flags are at half-staff today in Greater Sudbury. Alex Trebek was 80-years-old.
