6 new cases of COVID-19 in Greater Sudbury

Public Health Sudbury & Districts is reporting six new cases of COVID-19. Of the newly reported cases, four are from Greater Sudbury, and two are from Sudbury district. Two are close contacts of known cases, and the remaining are still under investigation.  Among the case counts yesterday in North Eastern Ontario Timmins and Sault Ste Marie both reported one new case of COVID-19. Both cases are self isolating.
 

Chippewa Secondary School goes into precautionary lockdown

Chippewa Secondary School went into a precautionary lock down yesterday at around the lunch hour. This was following reports that there was an individual, allegedly armed on the property. North Bay Police took a young person from North Bay who is facing a number of charges.
 

OFFSA is says Winter Championships a “No Go”

The Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) is cancelling more future events. In short, OFSAA says the province have not progressed to the point where our winter championships and festivals can take place. Hockey, snowboarding, skiing, curling, girl’s volleyball, boy’s basketball, swimming, and wrestling will not be running for the coming season.
 

SSM Mayor Christian Provenzano asked to pen a letter to Feds

Mayor Christian Provenzano has been asked to pen a letter to federal government officials, urging them to call for a three-week pause on any exemptions to international travel between the United States and Canada. Critical goods and services between the two countries would be exempt.
 

Lung Health Foundation in SSM will be having the Festival of trees online

The Lung Health Foundation in Sault Ste Marie says their 22nd Annual Festival of Trees will look a little different this year. In short the all the to-do will be going online with COVID-19 in place. The Festival of Trees will start on Thursday, Nov. 12 and run until Friday, Nov. 20.
 

MSS unveils new renovations and student spaces

Staff and students at Manitoulin Secondary School have unveiled newly completed renovations at the high school. MSS has recently undergone a multi-year, $5.5 million renovation project that saw visual enhancements and transformations to its student-facing spaces, as well as work done to overhaul electrical and plumbing networks.

Ontario Government to spend $1.4 million in job creation in North Bay

The Ontario government says they will spend over $1.4 million in five projects, all in the North Bay area. The aim is to help create 17 new full-time jobs. 5 Organizations will be getting funding to expand manufacturing production and inventory space. Full details are on our webpage. Funding for the projects is being delivered through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation.
• Central Welding and Iron Works is receiving $726,750 in funding to purchase and install a new drilling machine to increase production capacity.
• Designed Roofing Inc. is receiving $400,000 in funding to expand its manufacturing and inventory space.
• Metricaid Inc. is receiving $72,083 in funding to build web and mobile application-based scheduling software for emergency department physicians.
• Co-opérative Régionale de Nipissing-Sudbury in Chelmsford is receiving $128,561 in funding to purchase a new grain dryer which will increase its capacity to provide affordable grain-drying and storage services to local farmers.
• A small forestry company (739364 Ontario Inc.) is receiving $118,872 in funding to purchase forestry equipment to increase production capacity.
