New cases of COVID-19 announced in Sudbury and North Bay
Among new case counts of COVID-19. Public Health Sudbury and Districts is reporting four new cases, all in Greater Sudbury. There are also three newly resolved cases.
Also the North Bay & Parry Sound District Health Unit announced another six positive COVID-19 cases in the region. Of the six cases, three are 19 years of age or younger with the other three in the 20 to 39 age category. Meanwhile, Nipissing U now says the COVID-19 outbreak at Nipissing now involves 14 individuals. All 14 are self-isolating.
Timmins Police start foot patrol to help those with additions
A new Timmins Police program aims to connect to those struggling with addiction to treatment programs. Two officers have been selected for the program. The boots on the ground program, operates though one-on-one interactions. Officers will walk the street in the downtown core and hotspot problem areas.
Grade 7-8 students in Algoma moving to Secondary School
The Algoma District School Board will move Grade 7 and 8 students in Elliot Lake to the community’s high school in the fall of next year. The boards three high schools in Sault Ste. Marie have 7-12 programs. Central Algoma Secondary School, in Desbarats, is home to students from all five grades. A similar school is planned for Blind River.
Online cycling session rolling forward
An online information session is rolling ahead regarding the a Finn Hill mountain bike trail in Sault Ste Marie. It is being hosted by the Sault Cycling Club. A three-kilometre trail is planned on city-owned property on the west side of the Finn Hill section of the John Rowswell Hub Trail. Tentative construction start date is 2021.
New stop sign going up in Timmins
A new stop sign is going up in South Porcupine. Timmins council approved a new stop sign on Powell Street at Huot near St. Joseph School. It is for traffic heading east. Currently there are stop signs on Huot Street at Powell for traffic going north and south. The new stop sign will create a three-way stop. The other side of the intersection is an entrance to the school property.
Police looking for a missing man: 30-year-old Dakoda Fox
Greater Sudbury Police officers are looking for help in finding a man missing since Nov. 23. Dakoda Fox. He was last seen in the south end. He is 6-foot-1, 220 pounds, with reddish/blonde hair and beard, and light green eyes. Fox was wearing a red and grey FX hoody, blue jeans or khakis, and blue Under Armor runners.
