Outbreak declared at Coleman Mine

VALE says a COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at Coleman Mine. This is after one case of workplace transmission was detected. A spokesperson for Vale, says every effort to contain the outbreak and contact tracing has been done. Among the cases of COVID-19 today, Public Health Sudbury and Districts reported 19 new cases of COVID-19 along with 14 recoveries. 2 cases have tested positive for a variant of concern.
 

North Bay repave 37 sections of road

The City of North Bay plans to repave 37 sections of road and five sections of path in 2021. To that end, the city has issued a tender for $3.6 million dollars. A list of the work will be released once a contract has been awarded. Work is expected to continue until the end of October.
 

One new case of COVID-19 in the Hearst-Hornepayne area

The Porcupine Health Unit says the latest one is in the Hearst-Hornepayne area is a result of a close contact with another case. The person behind the number is in self-isolation. They are the first health unit in the North East to encourage residents not to gather over the long weekend.
 

APH reporting two new cases of COVID-19

The Algoma Public Health (APH) reported two new cases of COVID-19 yesterday. One from Sault Ste. Marie and area and the other from Central and East Algoma. It’s believed the one in Sault Ste Marie is due to a close contact.
Meanwhile,
Algoma Public Health is issuing at COVID-19 exposure warning. It is for anyone who may have visited Bath and Body Works in the Station Mall on Saturday between 11 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. It is a potential low-risk exposure, and those who may have been there at that time should monitor for symptoms.
 

Exchange students looking for billets in Greater Sudbury

A number of international exchange students will be coming to Greater Sudbury next month, and will be attending local high schools. The host company is looking for billets for those who are coming. The hope is that they will be attending schools with the Sudbury Catholic District board.
 

Stay off the ice – City of North Bay

The city of North Bay is once again encouraging residents to stay of the ice. This is as it’s piling up once again at the Waterfront, and up over sections of the Warf at Marathon Beach. They say the ice is unpredictable at best, and residents are asked to stay clear.

40-year-old charged with break and enter

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service has charged a 40-year-old with break and enter charges. This is following an incident that occurred on Great Northern Road on March 21. The incident is believed to have taken place at a business in the 200 block. It is not believed anything of value was taken.
 

Manitoulin looking at new swing bridge

Manitoulin Islander is getting a new swing bridge. The 108-year-old Manitoulin swing bridge has been the subject of four-year study, and public consultation by the Ministry of Transportation (MTO), alongside with an engineering firm. The new swing bridge will be almost identical in length to the original movable piece, 113 meters, but will be a much greater span of 160 meters—80 meters to the north and 80 meters to the south and built next to the original.
