Another COVID-19 related death reported in Greater Sudbury, the third in three days
Another COVID-19 related death has been reported in Greater Sudbury. The third in three days the health unit released the information yesterday afternoon. The surge in case of numbers in the area has caused issues at Health Sciences North, where a number of people are in hospital with COVID-19, including five in ICU.

94% of Greater Sudbury municipal workforce has been fully vaccinated
The city of Greater Sudbury says now that nearly 94 percent of the municipal workforce has been fully vaccinated. The City of Greater Sudbury said in September a mandatory vaccine policy would give approximately 3,000 employees until Nov. 15 to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, unless they had a valid exemption.
Powassan OPP considers Wednesday fire suspicious
Powassan OPP says a fire that burned down a shed and ignited two 420 pound propane tanks Wednesday evening, has been considered suspicious. Several units were called to Memorial Park Drive just outside Powassan along with the OPP Crime Unit and the Powassan Fire Department.
Construction season extended in Greater Sudbury
Due to some mild weather, Greater Sudbury is extending the construction season. They’re going to try and push it into mid-December. The city’s director of engineering services said that despite some supply chain disruptions, most of the road construction projects planned for the year were completed on time to the tune of $60 million dollars.
Power outage in Sault Ste Marie knocks out power at Mall, City Hall and GFL Memorial Gardens
There is no word as to the cause of a power outage in Sault Ste Marie that knocked out the lights at the station mal. The outage was reported at 12:45 p.m. and all customers were back online by 2:25 p.m. The power was out for a time in the surrounding area affecting a Seniors Apartment complex, City Hall, Fire Hall #1, and GFL Memorial Gardens.
Fall and winter sidewalk road maintenance starts up in Sudbury
Fall and winter sidewalk and road maintenance are now in full swing in Greater Sudbury. Contract crews begin every year on Nov. 1 and city staff start on Nov. 15. Meanwhile, the work is underway at Tom Davis Square, to mitigate overspending for maintenance, something that has happened for the past five years, minus last year.
North Bay arrest 32-year-old in massive drug bust
The North Bay Police Service has a man in custody, following what they call, one of the largest narcotics busts of its kind in the city’s history. A search of the residence uncovered roughly $61,500 worth of street drugs, as well as just over $1,500 in cash.
Sudbury Board of Health Approves PHSD budget at $28 million
Sudbury’s board of health has approved the 2022 Public Health Sudbury and Districts operating budget. Coming in at just over $28 million, that’s an increase of seven percent or $3.62 per capita over 2021.
City of North Bay discussing election signage
North Bay city will be talking signage before the end of the month. Specially, election signage. The ins and outs of its bylaw are up for a vote on Nov. 30th. At a meeting of the general government committee Tuesday, councillors unanimously passed a motion to adopt the bylaw that will govern how election signs are placed and regulated in the city. The bylaw will regulate all signs from municipal to federal elections and byelections.
