Sudbury Bylaw Parking Bylaw now in place

The City of Greater Sudbury’s overnight parking bylaw is in effect until March 31.
During this time, parking is not permitted on any roadway, highway, laneway or side street within the city, from midnight to 7 a.m.
 

City of Sault Ste. Marie says all roads in a “State of Repair”

The City of Sault Ste. Marie says with all the winter weather, Public Works crews are continuing to work to ensure public safety on roadways, sidewalks, and transit bus stops. During this time, all roads and sidewalks maintained by the City are considered to be in a “state of repair” until further notice. Drivers and pedestrians should use an appropriate level of caution and avoid unnecessary travel.
 

Northern Ontario slated to get a centre for electric, connected, and autonomous vehicles

Northern Ontario is now slated to receive an innovation center focused on developing technology for electric, connected, and autonomous vehicles. All part of a provincial announcement, $56.4 million in funding for the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network is on its way. There is no definitive word yet as to where it will be.
 

Elizabeth Fry Society will run Women’s Shelter

The City of Greater Sudbury says the Elizabeth Fry Society of Northeastern Ontario will run the new women’s shelter for the city. That plan was initially presented to council on Nov. 23 and included ideas related to funding. Once in operation, the nine-unit women’s shelter will be located within three kilometres of downtown.

A senior has succumbed to injury following a fatal crash on Manitoulin Island. The vehicle went in the ditch off Campbell Line Road in Central Manitoulin shortly before 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The 82-year-old has been identified as a resident of Thorndale.
 

North Bay Police respond to a call in the downtown, Saturday

North Bay Police have not given any further information a heavy Police presence Saturday in the 100 and 200 blocks of McIntyre, Main, and Oak Streets as well as Wyld Streets. OPP K9 was also called in to assist. About six officers including the K9 unit scoured the property surrounding the North Bay Museum and splash pad. One individual was transported to North Bay Regional Health Centre.
 

Calvin Township looking to replace two councillors

Calvin Township has called a special meeting of council, slated for Tomorrow. Slated for 6:30 p.m., it’s all to fill two vacant council seats. This fall, two Calvin Councilors resigned, and on November 9, Mayor Ian Pennell and council officially declared the seats empty. The council is made up of four councillors and the mayor.
 

COVID-19 warning issued with Timmins Flight

Another COVID-19 advisory has been issued for a Timmins flight. It is for the Thursday, Dec. 2. Air Creebec YS1 flight from Timmins that was scheduled to leave at 9 a.m. The plane landed in several communities from Moosonee to Peawanuck. Those on board should monitor for symptoms and call the health unit.
 

Timmins businesses getting $2.2 million in Province Funding

Some Timmins businesses are getting a hefty boost from the Province. A funding announcement made just before the weekend from Ontario’s Minister of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry, announced $2.2 million in funding to five local businesses. All five provide support services for mining and forestry companies.
 

Searchmont Resort is making snow

Searchmont Resort is looking forward to taking to slopes this winter, after being shut down last season. The resort says, at the moment they’re making snow, and now it’s a waiting game, until the temperature drops.
 

One-way crossing on the International Bridge up 59%

One-way crossings on the International Bridge launching from Sault Ste Marie Ontario into Sault Ste Marie MI are up. Totalling just over 18,700 (61) in November, most were made by pre-paid account fares. The Sault Ste. Marie Bridge Authority says the number is up 59% from a year ago.
 

Elliot Lake Tree Lighting rescheduled due to weather

Organizers of the Tree of Lights ceremony in Elliot Lake had no choice but to pull the plug on the event this weekend. Hosted by the St. Joseph’s General Hospital Foundation, it was supposed to be at 7 p.m. in front of the hospital. It was all due to weather, the event will likely be rescheduled to Sunday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m.
 

R.I.D.E. program starts up in Temiskaming

Temiskaming OPP has kicked off their Festive RIDE campaign. Thus far, they’ve had checkpoints set up in a number of locations, including in the south end of Cobalt. The campaign will in full motion until the New Year.
