The numbers are in and last year’s assessment growth of Greater Sudbury is $181M. That represents a 1.2% increase in property assessment value for the city which will, in turn, help spread out the tax burden.

Bonfield is getting ready to celebrate the arts. The event, under the same name… is a brand-new initiative this Friday organized by Bonfield’s Recreation and Fitness Committee, with support from a grant from the Ontario Arts Council

If you’re filling up… the latest numbers say those in Timmins continue to be pay more at the pumps than the rest of Northern Ontario. As of news time, just north of 165.2 cents per litre, is a cheaper than last week, but it’s still 7 cents more expensive than other northern cities. Sudbury? Is second at 158.2 cents per litre on average.

Speaking of your car… the city of Sault Ste Marie is warning of a scam going around. Some are getting emails and text messages requesting payment for parking tickets. Parking tickets, while not unfortunate are not issued via text or email.

Exterior cameras are coming to all new school buses in Canada, but there will be a little bit of a wait. The federal government is mandating perimeter visibility systems, which help drivers detect children around the bus while it is stopped or travelling slowly… to be installed on new buses by Nov. 1, 2027.

The OPP is warning about a computer scam in Greater Sudbury. Someone is posing as an undercover police officer, in Markstay-Warren area… trying to tell folks their computer has been compromised, and to protect personal files, they should pay a fee. If anyone is contact by such an individual, they’re asked to close the door and contact the OPP.

Conseil scolaire catholique Franco-Nord (CSCFN) will have a new Education Director in North Bay and area will have a new director, come the fall. After a 30-year career French-language Catholic education, Serge Levac is retiring. His last day is set for September.

A missing Timmins man has been located safe and sound. 28 year old Jeremy Nakogee was the subject of a missing persons report. He has since been located.

To the roads… Sault Ste. Marie city council has agreed to consider reconstructing the existing southerly part of Sackville Road when Sackville is extended north to Third Line. The Ontario government is chipping in $5.3 million toward the cost of the Sackville extension.

Despite some opposition, a three residential towers project is going up in Greater Sudbury. They will be at the ends of Kingsview Drive, Fieldstone Drive and North Field Crescent. Combined they’re be able to hold 324 rental units, noting each nine-storey tower will contain 108 units, 36 of which will be considered affordable.

North Bay Police seeking help to those responsible for damaging tires in the city. There have been multiple reports in numerous locations and anyone with information or surveillance footage is asked to contact Police.

Midway through its four-year mandate, city council in Timmins is providing an update on some of it’s mandates. CAO Dave Landers produced a checklist of seven main concerns, including housing, infrastructure, safety, recreation and tourism, economy, environment and core services. Members of the Timmins Economic Development Corp. will attend a council meeting at the end of the first quarter to provide an update on their projects.

Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services is getting $14.8M to develop 593 housing units. And of that, Sault Ste. Marie will get $750,000 for pre-development of a 30-bed supportive housing facility for men on River Road.

A second Western Manitoulin municipality has indicated that it will contribute a donation to the town of Gore Bay toward the operation of the Gore Bay arena. Burpee and Mills township will increase their share of funding provided and to contribute on an annual basis.
