Eastholme Home for the Aged in Powassan is receiving over $32,000 from the province. The one-time funding will allow Eastholme to purchase 10 bariatric beds, mattresses, and commodes.
Mail delivery in Timmins and the surrounding areas resumes today after being stopped yesterday due to the weather. Canada Post had issued a red delivery service alert for March 20. That suspends delivery for the day.
Delays continue for demolition of old hospital in Sault Ste Maire. The city’s CAO says unsigned contracts are behind a delay in the sale closing and eventual demolition of the former General Hospital building.
Sudbury is continuing their efforts to cast a vision for the downtown core. Residents were able to voice thoughts and concerns during the city’s Downtown Master Plan Community Workshop this week, while seeing the current plan.
Mining giant Vale is focusing on safety and production in Sudbury. This is following a meeting at the Sudbury Chamber of Commerce this week and a presentation on the company’s focus on having a “competitive edge” while operating safely and reducing costs.
The connecting link project in Timmins is moving back to the east end of the city. A contract has been awarded worth $21.7 million contract for Connecting Link work on Highway 101 from Crawford Street to the Porcupine River bridge.
The North Bay Police Service is looking to implement an Auxiliary Police Program.
Notably a number of officers got their start as an auxiliary officer, including chief Darryl Longsworth. They are looking to add eight auxiliary officers.
At Sault College, it was all pressed and dressed this week at the annual scholarships, bursaries and awards night. The event recognizes the academic achievements of the post-secondary institution’s students and saw more than $430,000 in financial support handed out.
