More than $25 million in federal expenditures across his riding in a series of media releases. The lion’s share of this money — $20 million — is going to “transform its Temiskaming Shores facility into a cobalt sulfate refinery production plant.”

West Nipissing council has decided to hold off on building an outdoor basketball court. In short, its all due to cost. While the site is user-friendly, safe, and has enough space to accommodate the court, the estimated cost is over $118k ($118,238).

Timmins Centennial Public school students are back to the regular routine today following an evacuation just ahead of the weekend. All due to the smell of gas. Staff and students were evacuated to the school yard. The leak was blamed by maintenance work being done on the roof and a broken gas line.

Meanwhile fire crews in Sault Ste Marie are in the water at Bellevue Marina today and tomorrow. They’re doing ice rescue training. The public is being thanked for keeping their distance for the time being.

The city of Sault Ste Marie is spending $5.2 million on American-made fire trucks. The chassis and cabs are built in the United States, then shipped to British Columbia for completion as fire pumpers.

In Elliot lake a public meeting set for the proposed zoning by-law amendment. It’s for Oakland Blvd. The meeting will take place on April 14 at 6:30 p.m. in the Council chambers

A new five-year strategic plan will be guiding the Cochrane Public Library. Input has come from a community survey among a number of in-person events.

SNOLAB, Greater Sudbury’s deep underground research laboratory, is developing a new program to inspire students. The initiative, called SEEDLING will begin development this spring, aimed at students in grades 4 to 8, the program will encourage participants to ask their own scientific questions and use the scientific method to find answers.

The Sault Ste Marie Police Service is now looking for a new police chief. This is after Hugh Stevenson put in notice that he’s stepped down. This comes following reports on Friday that the chief would soon be resigning. Deputy Chief Brent Duguay has assumed the role as Interim Acting Chief.

Timmins, Cochrane and area continues to experience higher than normal snow depths for this time of year. The Mattagami Region Conservation Authority said, just ahead of the weekend figures showing that snow depths and the water content in that snow are above normal across the Mattagami watershed. This is all before today’s snowfall.

North Bay Fire and Emergency Services is issuing a reminder about fire alarms and CO detectors. This is on the heels of the Ontario’s Fire Chiefs and the Office of the Fire Marshal issuing concern over recent fire activity in the Province. In short officials recommend you test the alarms every month.
