A 3.6-hectare wildland fire that began Sunday near Whitefish is out. The fire, which could be viewed along Highway 17, was declared out Monday morning. There were no reported injuries.

More than 250 municipal leaders from across the north are in North Bay this week for the annual Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities (FONOM) conference. This year’s theme is “The Next 100 Years” and pays tribute to North Bay’s upcoming centennial.

The city will begin seeking ‘community groups aligned with the vision and mandate of the facility’ to become tenants at the Cultural Hub at Tom Davies Square in the months to come.

Callander township has awarded a contract for shoreline reconstruction. Construction begins this summer on the Centennial Park break wall.

Mountjoy Street South in Timmins was closed for a time today, near the Senator Hotel. Several Timmins Police vehicles are on the scene and police tape is blocking access to Mountjoy between Algonquin Boulevard and Third Avenue.

With widespread flooding and historic water levels in local rivers in Sault Ste Marie, the opening of Pancake Bay Provincial Park has a delayed opening. It will now open to May 16.

Elliot Lake City staff will be turning on many of the city facilities water systems tomorrow for the season. This will include Burley Park and it’s washrooms, Spine Beach, Spruce Beach and their washrooms, Westview Park and the Simpson/Westview trailer park.
