The University of Sudbury announced plans to establish a new research and engagement initiative to bolster economic, social and linguistic development in the province’s francophone communities. Its mandate includes workforce planning, innovation support, and enhancing the cultural and linguistic vitality of French-speaking regions.

Sault Ste Marie says to enhance traffic management and safety, city hall has released its 2025 priority list for installation of traffic bollards. The bollards from the 2024 installation program will be re-installed once road conditions are suitable. Four roadways are on the list.

There’s still no final word whether Python 5000 is up to snuff when it comes to pothole patching in Sudbury. This follows a 2023 municipal report finding its costs outweighed its benefits, coming in at more than twice the cost per pothole as a manual patching crew.

Private fireworks are banned within Timmins city limits. Fire Chief Scott Atkinson says the exception is special events like Canada Day, which go through a vigorous approval process.

Armstrong Township council has given its nod of approval to the fire department to contract the company Firehouse Training to provide certification training for its firefighters. Certification is required before July 1, 2026, or firefighters cannot continue to provide services after that date.
