A transportation company in Sudbury is doing something different. Launching the first shuttle bus to and from the Sudbury Airport. It’s designed to offer an economical fare and is the result of the company working with the airport to expand and improve ground transportation options.

North Bay Police is working to increase officer presence in the city’s downtown core. A new operational hub for officers on Main Street, aimed at supporting their work while patrolling downtown.

Elliot Lake City staff has recommended $7.4m debt financing for arena costs. It comes in this week, noting the report does not include lighting nor cladding.

A unanimous city council greenlit more than $1 million in municipal support toward the 38-unit Peace Tower housing complex next to the downtown Sudbury water tower. The building will be offered at geared-to-income rental rates, which are 30-per-cent of gross monthly income.

Officials with the Heritage Train in North Bay say seven people were on the train when it ran off the tracks, adding that no one was injured. Three were volunteers, four were customers. It happened yesterday evening. There is no word as to the cause.

Timmins Police are looking for a man who has been reported missing. Devon is described as a 40-year-old Caucasian male, approximately 5’8″ and 170 pounds. He has a thin build, green eyes, and brown hair.

Non-unionized North Bay city employees will see a 16 per cent salary increase over the next four years. Council passed a salary bylaw during Tuesday’s regular council meeting.

The City of Sudbury is strengthening links with an entry-level skilled trades program. A draft of a formal agreement is in the works with Community Builders, a non-profit construction organization which trains people with barriers to employment.
Armed Forces Day in North Bay is only two weeks away. The thirteenth in-person event takes place June 4 at the North Bay Waterfront. Aerial performances include the Skyhawks Parachute team and the CF-18 demo team will be included.

Assiginack Township on Manitoulin Island has been given approval for phase two of the Sandy Point subdivision proposal… paving the way for a development to the township.

And from the good news file, more than 100 students from the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board are participating in the Yellow Fish Road Program to raise awareness about stormwater pollution. Until June 13 the students will paint yellow fish near storm drains with the message “Rainwater Only” as they don’t want anything fishy down the drain.

Crews in Sudbury are on site readying the foundation for a new hotel. Previously vacant land, it’s on the south side of the Kingsway west of its intersection with Third Avenue.
